When decorating our home, we often forget to pay attention to how much difference a table lamp can make in the look of our home. But table lamps, aside from a useful accessory can prove to be a valuable home décor asset that can shift the style of your rooms from classic chic to retro or to avant-garde in one simple move.
When choosing your lamp, it’s good to know that there’s always the chance to go overboard and end up in tacky territory, so while you should follow your instincts and choose the kind of table lamps you feel would work best with your home, you should also try consulting some interior decorations magazines or website, to atleast get a few ideas of what works and what is a big no-no that you will grow to hate over time and that will make your visitors cringe.
It’s good to know that modern table lamps will usually go with minimalistic furniture, to complement the clean cut look of a place. If you have the kind of neat, modern furniture, there are cases when you can go for a new-baroque look in your table lamp, in order to create a certain contrast, but this can only happen if you use the same motifs in other items in the room and house, such as mirror frames, otherwise it will stand out like a sore thumb and that’s precisely something you are not trying to achieve.
Aside from look, another thing you should consider is functionality. Even if you might be drawn to a certain lamp model, don’t jump in and buy it before making sure it won’t take up too much space, after all, a giant lamp on a tiny table won’t really help you much. Make sure the lamp you are buying has the right proportions for your needs.
Also be sure to check the kind of light bulbs it uses, as certain light bulb fittings, especially from cheaper lamps tend to be made out of materials that get damaged very easily in contact with the heat emitted from the light bulb. Also be sure that the lamp supports ecological light bulbs, since they both save you money on energy bills and keep the planet healthier, and make sure the bulb size you are able to use with the lamp of your choice will be sufficient for the intensity of the light source you need.
Going for a modern style lamp can well be for you, especially when you’ve just finished redecorating your apartment and are merely looking for something to add finishing touches, but if you are living in a more traditionally decorated home, then a classic style table lamp might well be what you need.
