A dictionary will define tiling as ‘the application of tiles to cover a surface.’ However, it isn’t as simple as its definition. Tiling done with art can beautify your home in many different ways. There are a lot of people for whom tiling is a hobby and therefore they often tile their homes themselves. But if you aren’t DIY kind, all you have to do is simply hire a professional.
Finding a tiler is really easy. Ask around. Your friends or family must have used professional help that tilers lend sometime in their lives. Otherwise you can always check up local yellow pages or newsletter for tiling services advertisements. Always approach more than one tiler. Find out what price they are quoting and what services they provide. Compare and then make the final decision.
The next thing is discussing your plans with a tiler. Invite him to your home. Show him the area which you want to be tiled. Share with him all designs or patters you have thought of. A good tiler will give you choices about patterns and will also discuss with you the pros and cons of those choices. Once the tiling pattern is finalized, schedule a rough time scale. Make sure that a tiler agrees to respect the deadline that you’ve agreed on.
After this comes the buying part. Many people shop for the tiles on their own. And many others let tiler make the decision. The best practice, however, is to go shopping with your tiler. This way a tiler can help you with the quality issues and you can take care of the financial aspects. Make sure you buy enough tiles to complete the whole task. In fact, buy few extra tiles in case something wrong happens, or for the purpose of possible future minor repairs. Later, getting the same design of tiles in the market won’t be easy if not impossible. Same tile but from a different batch may wary in both colour and texture.
While the tiler is at work, check the progress regularly. And once the work is done, call your friends over. Show them the amazing tiling work and bask in the glory!
